As Iran slowly loosens its grip on Internet use across the country, driven in part by recent government decisions to speed up its citizens' home connections, we asked secret-sharing app Whisper to look for some of the anonymous confessions Iranians had shared.
The company doesn't give out any numbers on its users, even in specific markets like Iran, but has noticed more Iranian users joining the service — a rise that Slade Sohmer, head of news at Whisper, attributes to word of mouth, better proxies and eased restrictions.
"What we see is so much like what we see elsewhere around the world — love, life, happiness, depression, acceptance, doubt, relief, connections." Sohmer said.
Below are a collection of Whisper confessions shared from the Iranian cities of Esfahan, Shahreza and Tehran.

You can download Whisper here.
